Habitat: We'll miss you
The end of a British Design era
Habitat, the much celebrated and championed British design stor championed as being resposnsible for bringing furniture design to the masses in the 60’s has recently announced that it will be going into administration.
The clear Habitat vision unfortunately has gone against these austere times that are more in favour of fast fast fast designs (particularly in fashion), or super high end exclusive design at mega high prices.
I love (*or loved) spending part of a lazy afternoon walking around Habitat on Regent Street dreaming of a house full of things from there. Lots of my wedding list is from Habitat – and I’ll be gutted to be missing out. I really do hope that for now, they continue to trade online like other post-recession companies like Woolies and Zavvi.
Here is a selection of current and past faves, including textiles by Lucienne Day and Sofa’s by Robin Day.
