The London Fashion Week exhibitions give the press and buyers the opportunity to see exactly what’s been shown on the catwalk, getting a closer look at details, textures, shapes and construction.
The exhibition space at Somerset House is also home for Esthetica, the British Fashion Council’s sustainable initiative, and Headonism, an area dedicated to the UK’s finest up and coming milliners. All words and photos Rosie.
My first stop was at Piers Atkinson’s harem of beautifully crafted hats and fascinators. I loved the Cherry influence last season, and was glad to see the brash and kitsch still featuring heavily in Atkinson’s design aesthetic. My favourite was the OTT floral number, something to add to the wedding possibility wish list.
Next, onto a jewellery stand by Les Nereides, a company new to London showcasing gorgeously tongue-in-cheek hand crafted jewellery. My favourites were the over-sized llama necklace and lady necklaces. Will definitely be keeping my eyes peeled at their new Covent Garden store for some of those! For more do see Les Nereides website here.
Over to the shoe area, and I most certainly kept my restraint and composure, oddly opting for the more practical food adornments on display (must have been something in all the free Vitamin Water putting me off).
French Sole are the old reliable in long lasting, foot supporting stylish ballet pumps. Although I have visited their stores before, I don’t think I realised the sheer choice on offer in their design portfolio. As the accompanying image confirms, next summer is going to be bountiful. My favourites were two tone metallic, with the main upper in gold (of course), with a shiny silver toe. Very reminiscent of Jackie Collins-luxe (in a good way!).
Finally was a mouth watering selection of Swedish Hasbeen’s, whom I’ve mentioned before. There was a very limited selection available at the beginning of summer at ASOS, and its obvious that they must have been in high demand. Clog-mania is going to be upon us, and I can’t wait. Practical and adaptable, I’ll have the silver woven beauties on from February at this rate!
